Period:
Neogene
Age Interval:
Tortonian, Iq1, Kw1
Province:
Iraq, Kuwait
Type Locality and Naming
Lithology and Thickness
Comprises sand and gravel containing pebbles of igneous rocks (including pink granitic) and white quartz, often cemented into a hard grit. Elliot et al. divided the formation into 4 units. From the base up these comprise: 1) Green sand and soft green marly sands, 2) Conglomerate with pebbles of calcareous matrix, 3) Grey and pink Lower Sandstone followed by limestones, 4) Sandstone and grit. Interfingers with Injana Fm.
Lithology Pattern:
Conglomerate
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next older unit as Injana Fm. In Kuwait it is Lower Fars Fm
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Alluvium with an unconformity
